NIAAA Position Statement on Engagement while Participating in Webinars, Online Courses and Virtual Meetings
Research has demonstrated that meaningful learning experiences can be found in an effective online learning environment. When objectives mandate increased attention and focus, elevated critical thinking skills and heightened motivation to learn, participants demonstrate awareness and increased knowledge.
However, in order to achieve the above objectives, high levels of engagement are necessary from all those involved. This includes instructors, presenters and participants.
Therefore, it is the expectation of the NIAAA Board of Directors, the NIAAA Executive Staff and the Professional Development Academy Leadership Team that all participants in online courses and webinars and all attendees in virtual meetings be highly engaged during those times that the course, webinar and/or meetings are “live.” While it is understood that emergencies and needs do arise, participants should demonstrate engagement in the course or meeting by displaying the video feature in the “on” position. Failure to do so, may result in loss of credit for a particular course or webinar provided by the NIAAA.
