NIAAA U is a one-year cohort study opportunity that provides the next step for athletic administrators who have reached a high level of certification and involvement in Leadership Training Institute (LTI) courses.
Launched in 2019 with a single cohort study group, NIAAA U has now expanded to include four unique cohort opportunities:
- Executive Leadership – Designed for athletic administrators who have achieved CMAA certification and are eager to continue their professional and personal growth, this program emphasizes development in both leadership and self-awareness. It addresses today’s most pressing challenges while advancing the principles of education-based athletics. Participants will gain the tools, insights, and support needed to navigate the evolving landscape of athletic administration, enhance personal growth, and foster a culture of excellence and leadership within their programs.
- Emerging Leaders – Designed for athletic administrators with 2-7 years of experience in education-based athletics, this program focuses on mentorship and guidance to help build a strong foundation for a successful and enduring career. Participants will receive tailored support to navigate the challenges of the field, enhance their leadership skills, and develop the expertise needed to thrive in athletic administration. The program is dedicated to fostering growth, resilience, and long-term success in the profession.
- Quality Program Assessment (QPA) – Supports CAAs and CMAAs who wish to apply for the QPA by assigning them a mentor who has successfully completed the QPA and who will work together through the cohort platform to complete the QPA via monthly assignments
- District Athletic Director – Designed for district-level athletic administrators who have earned CAA certification and oversee athletics across multiple schools, this program offers a collaborative environment to explore strategies and best practices for managing successful athletic departments. Participants will work together to enhance communication, streamline planning, build strong relationships, and implement effective operational practices. The program focuses on fostering leadership and organizational skills to drive efficiency, improve coordination, and elevate the overall athletic experience within the district.
- Middle School – Designed for athletic administrators who primarily oversee middle school programs, this program focuses on the unique physical, emotional, and social development of student-athletes at this critical stage. Participants will explore strategies for effective program development, with an emphasis on creating a positive and supportive environment that prepares young athletes for success at the high school level. The program provides practical insights on fostering skill development, building confidence, and guiding student-athletes through their early athletic experiences to set the foundation for long-term success.
Keep an eye out for NIAAA U Cohort study opportunities as we approach each National Athletic Directors Conference (NADC). NIAAA U Cohorts begin at one NADC and close at the following NADC a year later. Attendance at these NADCs is required (except for the Middle School Cohort) as well as participation throughout the year.
